In the fall of 1909, young businessman Richard Finborough meets the attractive Isabel Zeale in Devonshire. Its love at first sight for him and he eventually wins her heart. She moves to London and forces herself to adapt to a new life and a new social standing. Decades pass and the couple raises a family during the turbulent years of World War I. As her three children approach adulthood, Isabel must deal with her inner torments as well as the ravages of war. When her past comes knocking and threatens to destroy all that she has created, Isabel gathers all her strength to confront her own history and protect the happiness of those she loves.
