Resumen del Libro

The study started when the author, a Tepec (Amacueca, Jalisco) native, and her husband Phil C. Weigan spent one year in the huichol community of San Sebastian Teponahuastlán, Jalisco in 1987. The main purpose of the research was to study the origin of the designs and techniques of the multicolored chaquira beadwork of the Huicholes and their relation with the designs of textiles and embroiders. The book starts with an analytical text of the historic and social context of the Huichol community, establishing a reference background to better understand Huichol art. A second larger part analyses the techniques and iconography in the designs of the chaquira, highlighting the evolution of the designs and techniques from a perspective of social and cultural change.
