Summaries of correspondence of José Raon and Domingo Blas de Basaraz with the Spanish court, concerning the expulsion of the Jesuits from the Philippines, and the disposition of their properties. The summaries, excerpted from reports of 1768-1770, are grouped in five sections: first, there are reports sent by the Philippine governor José Raon to the king between July 26 and Nov. 24, 1768 which acknowledge the royal decree ordering the expulsion of the Jesuits, and explain measures taken for deportating the friars back to Europe, and for expropriating and making inventories of the papers, funds, and properties of the Order. Excerpts from correspondence of Basaraz, special commissioner for the expulsion of the Jesuits, to the king concern events of Jan. and July 1770, such as the receipt of powers of attorney from the Jesuit provincial procurator Juan Francisco Romero and Bernardo Bruno de la Fuente, rector of the Colegio of San Ildefonso, the death of commissioner Manuel Galván, transportation arrangements for deporting Jesuits to Cádiz aboard the frigates Venus and Santa Rosa, and control of the funds from Jesuit-run pious foundations (obras pías). Other summaries are given of the correspondence from Aug. 1769-July 1770 of Raon and Basaraz with the conde de Aranda and Pedro Rodríguez Campomanes, members of the Spanish court in charge of the Jesuit expulsion, notifications of Jan. and July 1770 from Basaraz to the commissioner of the port of Santa María of the passage of 24 Jesuits aboard the Venus, and reports of Aug 1769-July 1770 from Basaraz notifying the viceroy of New Spain and the warden of the garrison at Acapulco of the arrival of 21 Jesuits aboard the San Carlos. The summaries, faithful to the original documents, are signed by Juan Baptista Revilla in Manila on Dec. 15, 1771.
