Theoretically varied content analysis of national newspaper stoics (1950-86) sees Costa Rican national political culture as centered on discourses of patria, independence, liberty, democracy, and peace, perspectives deemed exhausted compared to Marxian viewpoints. Analysis includes a questionable attempt to relate the grammatical gender of Spanish terms to social gender. Also offers a conceptualization of the psychogenesis of the collective imagination.
