First time exhibition in the last 20 years dedicated to notable sculptor Cristina Gálvez (b. Peru 1916 -1982), who left behind a remarkable art production characteristic for the strong influenced of the European schools of Bourdelle and Giacometti. Gálvez was a decisive force that contributed in the rupture of the long era of the figurative realistic sculpture of the mid-20th century in Peru and founder of the local expressionist sculpture. She was also a mentor and strong influence to many recognized artists like sculptor Margarita Checa, who in the 1980s opened the Cristina Gálvez Atelier along painter Leslie Lee and potter Ana Maria Cogorno, a prestigious school-workshop where many young artists started their career. The book was published on the occasion of the homage retrospective El Gesto en el Vacío that presented the plastic art production of Cristina Gálvez from 1960 to 1982 with a selection of her sculptures made in bronze and leather, her drawings and prints.
