This work examines Enrique Gomez Carrillos strategies of self representation in his autobiographical project Treinta anos de mi vida. My purpose is not to verify the historical accuracy of the events in his life, but rather find the deeper truth that emerges when he recapitulates his life and seeks the meaning of his acts through conscious reflection. My point of departure is Gusdorfs idea that in autobiography, factual truth is subordinate to the truth of man, that is, the views, images, and perceptions he has of himself.
