This work tells the life story of a woman of the early twentieth century that overcame the barriers of sexism. She earned her masters and performed graduate studies in Humanities at UPR. After reaching administrative leadership positions in the Department of Public Instruction, she entered politics, becoming the first woman to be elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico for a senatorial district (Arecibo). After 2 periods in the Legislature (1957-1964), she decided to study law, graduating in 1965 of the first graduating class of the Faculty of Law of the University of Puerto Rico. She was also highlighted as a woman of letters and civic leader. She died in her native village of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico in 1995 at 92 years of age.
