Archaeological study of the formation of a central chiefly center in the Alto Magdalena region, southwestern Colombia, between 1,000 BC and 900 AD. From a small prehispanic community in the San Agustin zone, Mesitas emerged as a chiefdoms central place The research explores community dynamics by analyzing the importance of control of critical resources, population growth, and craft specialization.
