This book enters the world of the Jews of Northern Morocco through the window of Haketia (Judeo-Spanish). Haketia-speaking Jews lived in Morocco for nearly 500 years, from the year of the expulsion from Spain in 1492 until the 1970s, by which time most had emigrated to a wide array of countries. Haketiażs combination of Medieval Castilian Spanish and elements of Hebrew and Arabic preserves the Moroccan Jewish legacy to this day. This book -a compilation of idioms, recipies, songs and poems- is the expression of the traditions and cultural life of the Sephardic Jews from Northern Morocco.
