Melanie Klein developed her work for over forty years, such a lengthy creative effort inevitably led to continuous expansion, amendment and clarification in her thinking. Therefore, it is not an easy task to attempt at identifying Melanie Kleinbs more mature concepts or the way she conceived them amidst a production such as hers. This first volume includes those works written between 1921 and 1945 with the exception of The Psycho-Analysis of Children, published separately as Volume II. The editorial notes by E. O. Shaughnessy provide references to the authorbs background work and an overview of the development of her thinking over time.
