Resumen del Libro

This catalog, together with the exhibition held at Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, sets out to examine a particular period in the professional and personal development of Josep Lluis Sert: the first years of his exile in North America, from 1939 to the mid-50s in New York, when he was appointed Dean of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. This publication compiles various urban projects for Latin America cities Sert developed, and his collaborations and encounters between other exiled European artists and architects. Sert (1902-83) was a disciple of Le Corbusier, President from 1947-59 of CIAM (Congres Internationaux dArchitecture Moderne), and Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Design from 1953 to 1969. In 1937 he built the Spanish Pavillion for the International Exhibition, and in 1939 he went to the U.S. where he built projects both in New York and designed Latin American projects.
